How often do you see our kids getting awards for their hard work? Now how often do you see them getting awards from celebraties? Not often and in most cases not at all. On February 26, 2010 this became a reality thanks to the hard work of Ms. Anita Dawkins (A+), Jemmie Fingerz (Be A Blessing Every Day), Mike Schmitz, and many others. The community came together to give awards to the youth in our community who were chosen by their teachers to receive the honors and awards. Celebrity attendents included Ms. Aliyah Najm-T-Pains Triple Platinum R&B Artist (Mother), Ms. Lorraine Smith - Neyo Triple Platinum R&B Artist (Mother), Ms. Jocita Carter - Lil Wayne Triple Platinum & 8 Grammy's Rap Artist (Mother), and Charles Grant of the New Orleans Saints Super Bowl Champs football team. Local guest speakers included Sam Nicoles, Greg Benton our new police chief, Franklin Jones past educator and president of the NAACP, Mayor Mike Schmitz. Over 60 youth in 7 counties were awarded during the course of the event as well as local community leaders and individuals who helped make the event possible.
